A ladybug seen on a walk

The angle could be better, but I like the light.

New Addition to the San Francisco Skyline

San Francisco is undergoing a mini building boom. One Rincon Hill, the condo tower on the very left, is currently under construction, it will be 60 stories and 641 feet tall when finished. It is right off of the bay bridge, apparently I-80 is alone in its ability to convey ever expanding amounts of traffic with no upgrades ever. There are a couple other building that you can't see yet also under construction. Le Blog Exuberance and the SF Gate have more information and pictures.

Bay trail in Richmond, CA (West County Landfill)

Things you won't see in San Francisco, a landfill loop trail. Across the bay in Richmond, CA is this West County landfill loop portion of the bay trail (which goes around a lot of the bay), its a little lacking. On one side is the landfill, on the other, a refinery. Not exactly a well known portion on the bay trail for good reason! Some more of the sights:

(plenty of parking available)
(on one side a landfill, the other a refinery)
(Garbage Mountain - a descriptive sign)

There was actually quite a bit of wildlife, more birds than other parts of the bay trail, I saw a rabbit and I was the only one there. It isn't paved, so its not good for bike riding or strollers, aside from the fact that you have to trek through miles of industrial Richmond to get there. Jef Poskanzer has more pictures.

San Francisco Pier 39 sea lions.

The sea lions hang out by pier 39. Sometimes you get lots like this picture or sometimes you only get a couple rafts full, although lately they're always full. Its generally hard to out-stink a place where fisherman frequent, but the sea lions manage to do it with style. If you have visions of yourself swimming with them like dolphins, forget it, they have known to attack swimmers. Its worth a visit if you're doing the touristy thing, and if you get bit, you'll have a scar to show off to your buddies. John's Blog has more on the area.
