I don't know anyone who has actually been there, but you can take a boat out to it to eat.

An Alcatraz cell

Looks comfy! The inside is disgustingly dirty and dusty. Yeah I know its not going to be the cleanest place to visit, but it bugged me. Carl and Jen have more.

A pay toilet

Believe it or not it costs only 25 cents and usually clean.

Obama in Oakland 2- Faces in the crowd

Obama comes to Oakland

This is a San Francisco blog, but sometimes things happen in the East Bay that are worth mentioning. Other than that, if you're going to be staying in San Francisco for 3 or 4 months, then you probably want to spend maybe an afternoon in the East Bay just so you can say you've been there.

Anyway, this Barrack Obama guy is running for President in 2008 and stopped by Oakland, here is the crowd, waiting one and a half hours for him to show up:

Obama working the high rollers? I don't know who they are, but they got the good seats.

Giving the speech:

I don't really follow Obama, but he basically said we need to bring the people in Iraq home and spend the money we save on education, veterans, and health care.

The old US mint.

The old US mint in San Francisco is looking a little rundown with the bums hanging out on the steps. It is the first stop on the Barbary coast trail.

San Francisco Chines New Year Parade 2007

The San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade was yesterday, here is one of many dragon lines and their supporters. They keep extra people around so they can swap out when one gets tired. More from Flickr.
