St. Peter and Paul Church.
The large white building is the St. Peter and Paul Church in the North Beach neighborhood, San Francisco, California. You can see Russian Hill in the background. The North Beach is a nice neighborhood to walk around in. You can learn more at Uncle Tom's Blog Cabin, The Tomfoolery of a Seminarian, and Varieties of Unreligious Experience. All very good posts, not like the usual tripe linked from this blog.

Candlesticks in the bay.
A group of candlestick birds work the mud flat of the San Francisco Bay at low tide on a cold, dreary, winter day. Candlestick point (the park is now Monster Park) is named after the birds, also called Long Billed Curlew which are all over the bay. The 49ers are most likely leaving the candlestick point area and not everyone is sad to see them go. Yeah, its slow lately, but sometimes it gets foggy and rainy here in the winter.

The top of Lombard street.
This is the top of Lombard street, it doesn't look so great in the winter, in the summer its heavily planted with flowers. The Hyde street cable car goes right by this point. More shots.

Washington Square.
This is the Ben Franklin statue in Washington Square in the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco. You can see Coit Tower in the background. Washington square is on the Barbary coast trail, it is a nice place to visit if you're in town and quite a few restaurants are in the area. More pictures of Washington Square can be found here.

San Francisco skyline.
This is the San Francisco skyline from the Berkeley hills on a cloudy, foggy day. Its often cloudy and foggy for months at a time during the winter months, so be prepared for that possibility if you visit then.

The silver man of San Francisco.
Photo Sharks entry: famous
San Francisco has a number of famous street people, the Bush man is another one, but not as photogenic. This Silver guy is a fixture around fisherman's wharf or union square in San Francisco asking for tips if you take his picture. He does a funky little dance and moves around with a whistle in his mouth too. You can also get him to put his hand on your head, sometimes he goes hatless. He also has a few imitators not as clever. Good times.
